So the failable and constructive nature of memories is very real. Truth sprinkled in lies or "misconceptions" also spread false narratives. Some Mandela Effects explained by this, is doing just that: false narratives. Now lines in movies are retold, hearsay, some of us heard the line before or instead of seeing the movie. A classic telephone game scenario kind of thing. However, we were not told or convinced 40 years ago to add elements to something in front of our faces when those elements triggered a curiosity for which we learned what they were called. We weren't told to imagine it, we weren't convinced by a reference LATER . Like in Ace Ventura, 1994, the monocle on the monopoly man reference, that wasn't a false memory AT THAT TIME. It was still true then. The disappearing cornucopia and monocle are the deception somehow. The existence of both of them have reference for MANY of us due to learning those words based on their EXISTENCE IN THAT CONTEXT. Monopoly never went away. Fruit of the Loom didn't either. Look for the time in which these elements ceased to exist. If we could do that, find when, we might get closer to why.
I've had my own personal Mandela Effect. My birthday is the 21st of September. It was also my Dad's birthday. It's the most recognizable date of all to me. Now imagine learning at 50 that a song you heard for 40 + years, begins with the question: Do you remember, the 21st of September?
Why wouldn't I play that song on my birthday, or at the very least know the connection? I always liked the song. Why didn't I know that until my 50th birthday ? I knocked on my brother's door on my 50th birthday, he said perfect timing I'm playing your song. What? Like it wasn't a new thing that never happened before. It was NEW!!!
I definitely would have claimed that song as being specifically for me. Not in a psycho way but in the way Barry Manilow's Mandy is similar to "Mindy" so I claimed it. OK maybe psycho, or delusional.... but if you are aware it's a delusion, is it still a delusion? But the 21st of September IS my birthday... exactly. When did the song become that instead of Dancing in September? I'm sure I just never heard it from the beginning or something.
But nobody will ever convince me the cornucopia and monocle did not exist in reference to the aforementioned brand and board game, respectively.
